“Don’t Let the Bastards Get you Down”

New beginnings and fresh starts lead to a renewed sense of energy. I’m sure that’s why our society has catchphrases like, “Out with the old, in with the new,” and, “New year, new me!” But we’ve all been there before – in the midst of working to meet the purpose of our goals, or beginning that new relationship, you started to have some doubts creep back in, and sure enough, you witnessed some repeating patterns at this point of evolution creeping back in. Thought patterns like: Is this really what I should be doing? Do I deserve this level of happiness after everything I’ve done? What if no one likes my work?

Here’s what I’ve learned about doubt. When you dwell in the mindset that you are unworthy and undeserving of the things that you want, people can see that. Some people are astute at recognizing someone with a shifting boundary, and are ready to start making energetic withdrawals at your expense. Before you know it, you’re feeling drained and depleted, and the things and people that used to bring you joy are nowhere to be found.

Have the courage in these moments to catch yourself enough to shift your negative thinking. No matter what you’ve done in the past, you are always worthy of a brighter future. Remember this, especially in moments where people may try to remind you about who you used to be, versus who you are now. They were only privy to a previous version of you, and want to keep you in that place for the sake of their own comfort.

Every day we wake up is a great day to renew your mind, and to eliminate the internal conflicts that seek to hold us back from our new paths. You may experience moments of doubt, but don’t allow yourself to get set back by it.

Rise up confidently and show the world who you truly are. We are all waiting for you to reveal your true gifts.

A Prayer

Father God,

Thank you for blessing me this season with a renewed faith and confidence in my walk towards your purpose. I thank you for clearing any hinderances that sought to stand in my way, and I thank you for your grace that has kept me, no matter what, through all of my circumstances. Clear me of any self-doubt I may have regarding my identity as a child of God, and grant me favor among those that will aid me along my path. Allow me to rest in the secret pavilion you have provided me to renew my mind and get in alignment with the will you have placed over my life. Give me the strength to keep my focus clear and my heart open each and every day, so that I may embrace and appreciate the goodness you have already provided me in this life, and promised me in the one to come.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Mood Music

When that lingering self-doubt would creep in for me about my teaching abilities, I would play this song each and every morning, and would enjoy that space encouraging myself in the remembrance that each new day we get is a grace in and of itself. Consider it Pure Joy that you still have time to figure out how to improve the circumstances of your life.

If you need a gospel version of the same message, then I encourage you to listen to the next song as well. Let us remove all obstacles that we invite into our lives to fade away until our true self is revealed.

Until Monday.
