Feeling the Feels

Remember when I told you all about my 24 phoneless hours?

Going without a phone for 24 hours made me realize how many moments I use my phone in order to escape feelings of discomfort – perhaps that discomfort is loneliness, so I’m looking for connection. I may be bored, and looking for a way to entertain myself. Or, even worse, I have an important task I need to complete, and I’m using my phone to numb out.

Not having my phone yesterday made me realize I probably could benefit from having a set weekly day where there’s no phone, and I can confront the overreliance.

A big aspect of maturity is growing to a space where you can give up the habits that are no longer serving you, or the person you wish to become.

What are some habits you can stand to outgrow today?

A Prayer

Father God,

Thank you for every lesson that you teach so freely, and for the control that you give us to make the best decisions for ourselves. Lord, I ask that you continue to reveal the spaces in my life where I can decrease my dependence on external happiness so that I may increase my dependence on you to fill those spaces with joy.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Mood Music

Won’t He do it? We’re overcoming our challenges, an removing the obstacles out of our way. We got this.

Until Tomorrow.

Keep Things in Perspective – The Midnight Edition

Happy Full Moon!

Today’s blog is delayed because I needed to learn some lessons in action regarding perspective shifting.

I lost my phone last night after having such a wonderful evening, and almost let the loss eclipse the joy. Isn’t that how it usually is? Sometimes, one negative moment can overshadow the many positives as well.

Losing my phone almost made me forget the new acquaintances I made, the wonderful views, how vibrantly orange the moon was last night, or the fact that I haven’t had to pay for my transportation, food and drinks these past two days.

Losing my phone felt like a pretty significant loss, but ultimately, losing it reminded me of the kindness of strangers. My cab driver from yesterday answered my phone, and was able to give me his number right before it died. He also charged my phone completely, and dropped it off at my house.

Perhaps this message is simple – even in the midst of difficult moments, find the blessings, and repeat the blessings often. The more you reflect on what’s going right, the less power you’ll give to the one moment where things went wrong.

A Prayer

Father God,

Thank you for blessing me each and every day. Thank you for surrounding me with great people who had my best interest at heart yesterday. Lord, in the moments when I am tempted to forget your mercy and goodness, I ask that you retrain my focus to see your light.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Mood Music

“I am grateful for the things that you have done
Yes, I’m grateful for the victories we’ve won
I could go on and on and on about your works
Because I’m grateful, grateful, so grateful just to praise you Lord

Until Tomorrow.
